If Only: Outfit of the Day 31#

Honestly, Topshop is, in my opinion, one of those brands that shouldn’t be able to pull off a runway show. I was twelve when they made their fashion week debut, and so I’m pretty much always known Topshop as being a ‘runway brand’ since the age when I really became interested in fashion, and yet still, while child actors Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Victoria Beckham – an ex spice girl – have all been bale to establish themselves as, first and foremost, fashion designers, in our minds, Topshop for me is still just a high street store that sells edgy, sometimes questionable, generally affordable and sometimes overpriced items that we all wear. Nevertheless, Topshop’s more ‘high-end’ line: Topshop Unique, is definitely one of the darlings of LFW year after year. I don’t know quite how they do it, but I sure as hell love them even more for it. Therefore, today’s look revolves around a Topshop Unique skirt… roll on SS15’s collection!

If Only: Outfit of the Day 25#

I think today’s styled outfit is inspired by London’s art galleries, many of which I have today frequented on a grand artistic tour of idea fuel. From the colours, the painterly skirt and the vintage-print blossom top, I’ve mellowed the mass of patterns and brights with Burberry’s beige trench cape; a modern twist on their classic, reliable beige trench that works so well to balance a busy outfit. The boots and crochet are probably considered an unusual choice with the skirt and top, but I think it would work really well.

Today’s styled outfit is definitely bracing that age-old rule of ‘less is more’. Pastels, florals, peep-toe.. it may be more suited to spring, but what’s wrong with that?

Forget the all black attire (more or less) of yesterday, today, I want colour, and florals, and a phone case that looks like an ice lolly! Today’s styled outfit also totals to considerably less than usual… no designer required. Jewellery is kept to a minimum, allowing that loud playsuit to speak for itself, while the blazer gives a pop of colour that breaks up the whole look. I love it.

If Only: Outfit of the Day 10#

When I was at school, I used to worry about how depressing it must be to wear office attire – a limited variation between black, navy or grey, pinstriped or plain, suit trousers or pencil skirt. I was convinced that, if I ever found myself working in an office rather than living the dream as my own boss (*touch wood and hope that it’s a dream that I can continue forever*), how would I be able to find a reason to keep a smile on myself if I could not experiment? Yes, these were the sorts of things which concerned sixteen-year-old me, and yes, I got over it, partly because I learnt the joy of experimenting with business attire and finding ways to express myself through my wardrobe, while not looking inappropriate during meetings. Today I shall be speaking with stylists, designers, MUAs and hair stylists, brainstorming with them and we put together the first of my personal Sleeping Maidens project, and therefore while it’s not a serious work-related meeting, it will hopefully lead to some amazing opportunities, and so if I could raid any shop in the world, taking what I choose free-of-charge, I would choose something playful; a colourful bow tie and a bright, floral skirt.

Sleeping Maidens: A New Project

sleeping

Up until now, my photo shoots have always been one-off ideas, rather than ongoing projects, but lately, rather than having 1000 individual ideas bouncing around in my head, I’ve had 1000 intertwined ideas filling my head, and stories to accompany them.

This is where my ‘Sleeping Maidens’ project comes in. Over the next several months, I’ll be creating a series of images with a whimsical, romantic, Sleeping Beauty-esque feel to them, inspired by Ophelia, to the Romanticism movement, to fairy tales and folklore. I’m so excited to put my these ideas into motion, and to see what I create at the end of these next months – perhaps a book?

Of course, every step of the project will be documented on this project, including behind the scenes images – perhaps even a video or two.

If you’re a model, makeup artist, hair stylist, wardrobe stylist, fashion, jewellery or accessories designer, if you’re a retoucher, a videographer who’s happy to step in and film some BTS footage for us, or a photography assistant, or anyone who feels that that have something to offer and wishes to collaborate with me, please, feel free to get in touch at:

There is a moodboard available on my Pinterest account for anyone who is interested, and I shall be updating it frequently.
