If Only: Outfit of the Day 33#

Maybe it’s because it’s September, maybe because it’s school season, and I suddenly find myself once again wondering whether I am invisible to anyone under the age of sixteen as children leave school on their scooters, ramming the front wheel into my ankle, running their bikes over my toes, headbutting me in the thigh, their screeches of laughter and shouts to each other ringing through my ears, disturbing what was just a week ago a very peaceful route through the quiet residential streets of my neighbourhood. Maybe it’s the first crisp, falling leaves of autumn, but there is definitely an element of back-to-school chic intertwined with an autumnal colour scheme for today’s look. Slightly-clashing patterns, block colours, lashings of accessories and a hit of grown up lace lingerie peaking through a shirt… yes.. I like this one very much.

New York Fashion Week: Day 1

It’s here! It’s begun! New York Fashion week has finally arrived for SS15! I’m literally quivering with excitement.. or, judging by the pounding heartbeat, I’ve drunk one coffee too many, too quickly. While there are still a few more shows to go before the day is up, I couldn’t wait any longer to share a few of my favourite runway looks.

Creatures of the Wind

That second outfit… can you not picture Keira Knightley wandering around Canonbury in that? She has baggy, high waisted paper-bag trousers to perfection, after all. Though I’d change the shoes. I’ve seen too many 50+ citizens limping down high streets in similar. There’s ‘granny chic’ and then there’s…

BCBG Max Azria

My evening’s inspiration.. tomorrow I shall be experimenting with karate-style fabric belts, that’s for sure.

Tome

This is hands down one of my two favourite shows of the day. Tome have done well for me, fixating on beautifully cut silhouettes, silks mixed with lace details, modesty mixed with flashes of skin.. all the things I love most about fashion at the moment. And the combination of navy’s and blacks, with creamy golden pastels works wonderfully together.

Tadashi Shoji

Ok, so I may as well have dedicated a whole separate post to Tadashi Shoji’s latest collection… when I would ever have a chance to wear most of these outfits, I have no idea, but my god, they are beautiful – the detail, the colour pallet, everything is just so intricate and perfect…

I’m already noticing a trend that I’m particularly excited about: that of draped, billowing fabrics which fall into wonderfully feminine, flattering silhouettes with cinched in waists. Yes, yes, yes!

Sleeping Maidens: A New Project

sleeping

Up until now, my photo shoots have always been one-off ideas, rather than ongoing projects, but lately, rather than having 1000 individual ideas bouncing around in my head, I’ve had 1000 intertwined ideas filling my head, and stories to accompany them.

This is where my ‘Sleeping Maidens’ project comes in. Over the next several months, I’ll be creating a series of images with a whimsical, romantic, Sleeping Beauty-esque feel to them, inspired by Ophelia, to the Romanticism movement, to fairy tales and folklore. I’m so excited to put my these ideas into motion, and to see what I create at the end of these next months – perhaps a book?

Of course, every step of the project will be documented on this project, including behind the scenes images – perhaps even a video or two.

If you’re a model, makeup artist, hair stylist, wardrobe stylist, fashion, jewellery or accessories designer, if you’re a retoucher, a videographer who’s happy to step in and film some BTS footage for us, or a photography assistant, or anyone who feels that that have something to offer and wishes to collaborate with me, please, feel free to get in touch at:

emmastylesphotography@gmail.com

There is a moodboard available on my Pinterest account for anyone who is interested, and I shall be updating it frequently.
